CITB is a £250 million turnover Industrial Training Board working with and for the construction industry to deliver a safe, professional and fully qualified UK construction workforce. As such CITB support the training needs of over 78,000 employees across Great Britain. The National Construction College both provides and facilitates training for c. 20,000 people in the industry each year. CITB also provide grants for 15,000 apprentices each year.
CITB are a multi-site organisation across Great Britain employing c1400 people.
The client has an existing application that uses digital pens to capture form data in the field, typically review forms for apprentices. This written data is then translated into XML via a PaperIQ system and transmitted to servers hosted by CITB. We were contracted to provide technical documentation of the workflow application as well as provide a specific workflow solution for Welsh and Scottish implementations using the .Net framework.
It was an additional requirement to implement a number of Office Automation methods for automated document printing.
What was built
A workflow solution was built using VB.NET that implements an existing application. The workflow processes forms that have been completed digitally and require conversion through the PaperIQ system.
Detailed developer documentation was written to allow for end users to complete additional workflow solutions.
A number of .NET technologies were utilised including VB.NET and Microsoft SQL Server as well as Microsoft Office automation technologies.
